Puff Daddy, a big hip-hop artist, is known for collaborating with other artists, from other kinds of music. Most recently he has worked together with Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. Reports are now saying that when Puffy asked 311 frontman Nick Hexum to work with him on a remix for "It's All About the Benjamins," he rejected the idea.
Apparently Hexum posted a message in the "311 Fans" folder on America Online saying that Puffy wanted Hexum to add a rap to the rock remix of the track (which features head Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and ex-Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson). Hexum goes on to say, "We said we would only be involved if we could sing our own verse about 'it ain't about the benjamins, it's about the friends I'm in.' Or perhaps, 'to some sad people, it's all about the benjamins.'" Hexum's suggestion must not have been liked, and it's not turning up on the track.
In other 311 news, Hexum and 311 won't be showing up six of their tour dates in Europe. Guitarist Tim Mahoney needs two weeks to recover from a hernia operation. The operation was done earlier this week. 311's upcoming U.S. tour, which will be on throughout the rest of the year, won't be affected. The band then heads to Australia for the Warped tour.
