In an "anti-establishment protest," The Chemical Brothers are purposely packaging their new single so it will not be aloud into the British charts. The Chart Information Network (CIN), a music industry organization that regulates the national music charts in the U.K., recently rejected both "Death to the Pixies" and a compilation album by Hole. The Hole album was rejected just because a poster inside was larger than the CIN's standards.
The song "The Private Psychedelic Reel" from the Chemical Brothers latest album, "Dig Your Own Hole," is coming out as a limited-edition CD with a free gift (which is not determined yet), on purpose to break the rules of the CIN. A Virgin Records spokesman said that the obvious reason is that the band doesn't want to compete in the market. "The single's nine minutes long, so it's not going to get played on radio anyway, and at that time of year, you're not going to get anywhere unless you're Oasis, the Spice Girls or doing a Princess Diana tribute. It's commercial death."
