Soundgarden, AIC Manager Steps Down

[11-05-97 Wed] The woman who was behind the mangement of some of the biggest bands in the Pacific Northwest, has decided to step down after 18 years. Susan Silver, who has managed Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Sponge among others, announced she will "downsize" her clients. She will stop managing her husband, former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.

"Basically, I wanted to simplify my life and have some time off," Silver explained. "If I wouldn't have done this now, the first six months of next year would have been so incredibly busy, with five records coming out, I wouldn't have been able to think about anything like this for 12-24 more months," she said, talking about upcoming releases by Tuatara, Sponge, the Mayfield Four and solo debuts from AIC guitarist Jerry Cantrell and Cornell. "It was either now or two years from now." Silver's office will still be open so she can continue to take care of any future Soundgarden or Alice in Chains releases, she said, and "possible music-related projects in the future." However, the end of the year will be her "effective retirement" from the business. It is unknown at this time who will take over other solo projects or bands in the future.

Since this announcement, Cornell has already changed his management company, which is now an old friend, former Offspring manager Jim Guerniot, head of Time Bomb/Deconstruction Records. Other accompolishments of Guerniot include being a former executive at A&M Records and managing the band alternative/punk band Social Distortion for 14 years. Guerniot had also helped to sign Soundgarden at A&M Records.

By the way, AIC's Jerry Cantrell is still working on that solo album. Cornell is also currently working on a solo debut album. Both projects should be out sometime in early 1998.
