Four New Sublime Albums Coming

[11-06-97 Thurs] Regardless of the fact that Sublime's lead singer, Brad Nowell, died in May 1996 of a heroin overdose, the band will still release new albums. The first of four upcoming albums is called "Secondhand Smoke," which will be released on November 25. The album is a collection of outtakes from recording sessions from Sublime's last album, the self-titled hit "Sublime." Among other songs it includes "Saw Red," which Sublime recorded with their friend Gwen Stefani of No Doubt, which originally appeared on their 1994 album "Robbin' The Hood." The other three Sublime albums will come out sometime next year. Not in respective release order, the albums are a live record, an acoustic record, and a hits collection with songs dating back to 1988.

"It's wonderful to see that the kids are still out there loving it, even though we're not out there to play the music anymore as a band," says drummer Bud Gaugh. "As far as music goes, it's lasted for life. I mean that's Brad's." Brad Nowell's widow, Troy Nowell said, "He'll be alive always because of his music."

Recently, Troy Nowell and Lauryn Hill of the Fugees, Art Alexakis of Everclear, and many other musicians took part in a music industry-supported campaign against drugs. In a public service announcement, Troy was with her little son Jakob, and declared, "I was married to Brad Nowell, the singer of Sublime. Brad died of a heroin overdose. Jake's been robbed of having a wonderful person be his father. Educate yourself. Heroin kills, period. We miss him, and we'll miss him forever, and don't let anyone miss you."
