[11-08-97 Sat: Exlcusive] A federal judge ruled on Saturday that Metallica will be able to play their free show in Philadelphia on Tuesday. According to television station WB17 Philadelphia, a federal judge ruled that regardless of the complaints of locals and local councilmen, Metallica may play their free Veterans Day concert in the Corestates Complex parking lot. The band was given grief since a few days ago when they announced their concert, from local residents and city councilmen. They were concerned about the people and the heavy volume of traffic it would bring to the area. They also worried about the issues of security, sanitation, and noise.
On Friday afternoon, Corestates Complex officials proposed to move the show indoors, because the Spectrum can hold more of the fans, but Metallica still vowed to play in the parking lot. "We owe it to the fans to fulfill our obligation," Metallica's management explained in a prepared statement, which was released Friday night. "By playing outside [in the CoreStates Complex parking lot] we can meet the demands, no matter how many people come to the event. Our goal is to accommodate the fans, address the city council's concerns and meet all needs commensurate with an event of this magnitude."
