Live's Show Stopped By Flying Shoe

[11-21-97 Fri] Live frontman Ed Kowalczyk didn't see it coming at a concert on Thursday - a flying shoe.

Kowalczyk was hit by a shoe thrown on stage about thirty minutes into the show at St. Bonaventure college in Olean, New York, on Thursday. The shoe struck his ear, lodging his ear monitor into his ear drum. Kowalczyk was then stunned, and dropped his guitar and left the stage to get medical help. The rest of the band continued playing for a few minutes, not knowing what happened, and left the stage. Soon, a school representative announced that the show was canceled because of Kowalczyk's serious injury, and the crowd quietly left...although one fan pulled the fire alarm on the way out.

The band's publicist later said that the announcement of "a serious injury" was premature and Kowalczyk was not seriously injured. Live will wrap up their current tour on Saturday at Dartmouth College, in Hanover, New Hampshire.
