Seven New MTV Channels Coming

[11-26-97 Wed] For those of you sick of the "trendy" "Empty-V," with a series of a couple goods songs and then lots of crap, that has been on recently, you may now have another alternative besides VH1. Starting next July, MTV and VH1 will present seven new specialized channels in a service called "The Suite From MTV." Instead of trying to please everyone on one channel, each channel will fulfill a specific musical taste.

These new channels will be available for an additional charge through your cable company, just like the now fifteen-month old "M2." The new "MTV-like" channels are the already available "M2," a free-form music channel, "MTV Rocks" featuring hard rock and heavy metal, "MTV Indie," consisting of mostly techno and rap music from independent labels, and "MTV Ritmo," which will shows Latin music like Cuban and Tejano. The new "VH1-like" channels will include "VH1 Smooth" with jazz, new age, and adult contemporary music, "VH1 Soul" for R&B fans, and "VH1 Country," - country.

Feel free to express your opinions on this by e-mailing it in for Bands We Hate - or just opinions.

In other news, MTV has decided to censor the new Prodigy video for "Smack My Bitch Up." The video may not even be shown during the day, instead during late night/early morning hours. What's so bad about it? Daily Alternative Music News reports that the "video features a lot of sex, drugs, violence and a topless lesbian who walks around a club vomiting on people, grabbing the breasts of other topless dancers and fighting." Hmmm...Does this look like censorship material?
