[12-09-97 Tues] A British documentary on Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain will make its American premiere at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in mid-January. However, it won't exactly be 'cheerful'.
Broomfield - the producer - has been known for such previous productions including such sinister titles as "Dark Obsession," which have been described by reviewers as Broomfield's previous "superior ambush journalism," and on the other side of things, "biting," "grotesque," and "kinky." To make it even darker, Broomfield has earlier been in conflict with Courtney Love. She supposedly wanted no part of the filmmaker or his cameras after seeing his previous works, and tried to prevent his attempts to film her. In response, Broomfield disrupted an ACLU awards dinner and, in public, accused Love, who was the guest presenter, of manipulating and strong-arming the press.
The documentary, "Kurt and Courtney," will make its world premiere on the BBC in Britain later in December. Also to be featured at the Sundance Festival includes "Lou Reed: Rock And Roll Heart."
