Patriots Moshers, Everclear Being Sued

[12-10-97 Wed] Tammeeka Messier, the woman injured last month when several New England Patriots players jumped off the stage at an Everclear concert, has filed a suit on Wednesday against the football players, Paradise Nightclub (where it happened), and the members of Everclear. The people specifically named in the suit are quarterback Drew Bledsoe, offensive guard Max Lane, the Paradise nightclub and three members of the band Everclear: Art Alexakis, Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund.

The suit claims that Everclear frontman Alexakis encouraged Bledsoe and Lane to stage dive. The civil suit filed by Messier states, "Bledsoe, who weighs over 235 pounds, jumped from the stage, and landed on the left side of Ms. Messier's head and her left shoulder. Immediately after Bledsoe hit her, Ms. Messier felt her body go numb, and she felt as if she was blacking out ..." However, a Boston police sergeant testified that Lane fell on the woman. Soon after the incident, Messier had surgery to have two discs removed from her neck and were replaced with a piece of bone from her hip.

Earlier, police announcded after investigating that they would not file criminal charges in connection with the incident. According to the AP, calls made to the club's attorney and the members of Everclear were not returned or they were not available. Patriots officials had no comment.
